Annie Wesley-Swen Legal Training Program
The objective of the Annie Wesley-Swen Legal Training Program is to prepare non-legal professionals to earn accreditation to practice U.S. immigration law. This accreditation is approved by the Office of Legal Access Programs (OLAP) within the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) of the U.S. Department of Justice. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to become valuable members of ACISS, Inc.’s legal team, continuing Annie’s legacy of dedicated service.
In 2025, ACISS, Inc. will launch the Annie Wesley-Swen Legal Training Program, named in honor of a resolute volunteer staff member whose dedicated service significantly improved our approach to processing adjustment applications. Annie Wesley-Swen played a pivotal role in creating a service strategy that allowed clients to access assistance during both regular business and evening hours.
Annie exhibited exceptional administrative and technical skills and aspired to practice U.S. immigration law as an accredited representative. Her passion for this field is the inspiration behind the creation of the legal training program, and we had expected her to be our first trainee. Tragically, Annie passed away suddenly on June 12, 2022, leaving a significant void in our professional client services.
Group Therapy Program
In 2025, ACISS, Inc. will launch its Group Therapy Program to augment its existing personal therapeutic services. This new initiative aims to extend our support to the larger community as a means of giving back, initially focusing on victims of domestic abuse. The program is designed to create a safe and nurturing environment where participants can develop peer relationships, build self-esteem, and raise awareness of domestic abuse within immigrant communities.
The Group Therapy Program will provide a structured space to share their experiences and support each other in their healing journeys. By fostering a sense of community and mutual understanding, we aim to empower our community to regain control over their lives and make informed decisions about their futures. Our skilled therapists and facilitators will guide the groups, ensuring that each session is productive and supportive.
As the program progresses, we plan to expand its reach and addressing other issues such as trauma, mental health, and integration challenges. Our goal is to build a comprehensive support system that not only aids individual recovery but also strengthens the community as a whole.
Through this initiative, ACISS, Inc. aims to bring about meaningful change by breaking the cycle of abuse and promoting a culture of support and resilience. By raising awareness of domestic abuse within immigrant communities, we hope to foster an environment where victims feel safe, understood, and empowered to seek help and support.
Ultimately, the Group Therapy Program is a testament to our commitment to serving and uplifting our community, ensuring that every individual has access to the care and support they need to thrive.
Our Services
Legal Services
ACISS, Inc. operates with three main arms to support and uplift our community. First, we provide comprehensive legal services to U.S. citizens and non-citizens seeking immigration status adjustments. This includes:
- Family-Based Petitions: Assisting immediate relatives (spouses, parents, children over 21, or siblings) to petition for individuals to enter or remain in the U.S. legally as immigrants
- Employment and Religious Sponsorship: Helping individuals seeking immigration status adjustments through employment or sponsorship by religious entities
- Self-Petitions and Asylum: Supporting individuals with self-petitions under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), asylum applications, and temporary protection status.
Our legal services are bolstered by pro bono lawyers, and we are in the process of becoming “recognized” by the Department of Justice. This recognition will enable our non-legal professionals to attain accreditation to practice immigration law and represent individuals in these legal processes.
Counseling and Therapy Services
Recognizing that a significant percentage of our clients are victims of abuse, ACISS provides specialized counseling and therapy services. We offer support to both female and male adults, as well as children who are immigrant victims of domestic violence and other injustices. Our services include:
- Psycho-Social Assessments: Comprehensive evaluations to understand the needs and circumstances of our clients.
- Domestic Abuse Counseling: Professional counseling provided by qualified, background-checked clinical social workers and licensed graduate counselors.
These services are designed to provide emotional and psychological support, helping victims to heal and rebuild their lives.
